i'm jess martyn, a brisbane singer and pianist. ten years of weekends in this city's pubs, bowls clubs and wedding venues will teach you a few things. the songbook's 600-plus deep now, so throw me a request and i'll probably know it (and if i don't, i'll learn it). there are two cruise-ship contracts on the cv, with a third on the books, which is a polite way of saying i've won over a slightly seasick room and still got it dancing. weddings, corporate nights, festivals, restaurant residencies, the lot. mostly, what ten years buys you is the knack of reading a room and playing it exactly what it needs.

how a typical booking looks

every event is shaped to fit, but most start from one of these:

these are starting points, not limits - the coverage is yours to set (want me for five hours straight? done). quotes are tailored to your event and arrive within 2 business days.

frequently asked questions

How long do you play for?+
Most weddings book three 45-minute sets across about three hours; corporate and private events usually run two 45-minute sets across two hours. That's just the typical starting point. The quote wizard lets you build the coverage you want, or leave it flexible and I'll tailor it.
How far in advance do I need to book?+
No minimum notice. I'm often able to step in last-minute when another act falls through. For weddings and big events, though, the earlier the better so I can hold your date.
Can you learn a specific song for our event?+
Requests are my thing. There are 600+ songs in the book already, and with enough notice I'm happy to learn something new for you (depending on the song, a small extra fee may apply). First dance, family favourite, sneaky in-joke song: all welcome.
Do you travel outside Brisbane?+
For weddings, I'll travel up to three hours from Brisbane, and any travel costs are agreed with you up front as part of the quote, so no surprises. For regular pub and restaurant gigs I stay within about 30 minutes, or further by agreement at $50 per hour of travel.
What do you need the venue to provide?+
I'm fully self-contained. I bring my own keyboard, loop pedal, PA, microphone, stands, cables, and even coloured lights. All I need from the venue is a power outlet.
Do you have public liability insurance?+
Yes, I hold public liability insurance and can provide a certificate of currency for your venue or event organiser on request.
How does pricing work for corporate events?+
Every event is a bit different, so I quote on the details: coverage time, location, and any extras. Most corporate events run two 45-minute sets across a couple of hours. Tell me what you have in mind via the enquiry form and you'll have a tailored quote within 2 business days.
What's your cancellation policy?+
For standard and corporate gigs: 50% fee if cancelled less than 24 hours beforehand, 100% if less than 12 hours. For weddings: 50% cancellation fee if cancelled less than a week out from the event.
Do you offer DJ services?+
Yes, for weddings I can also provide DJ services at the reception to round out the night.
Do you do cruise ships or residencies?+
Yep, I've done two cruise ship contracts with another on the books, several restaurant residencies, and I feature on the monthly roster at a number of local venues. I'm always open to long-term and recurring gigs.
